Do you ever wonder why someone chooses one basement waterproofer over another company? Well most companies cannot provide that answer for you but at Quality 1st Basement Systems we can. We understand that homeowners like to hear from other homeowners why our company is that one to choose and what we did to make us a great basement waterproofing company new jersey. So we like to ask our customers why us? and interview them for their honest opinion (good or bad) on how our work was. Below is a video is one of out customers from Freehold, NJ who we recently did work with last March. But enough of us talking about why we’re so great listen to him.

George: They were very careful about trying not to ruin anything in the house. The workers did not trash the house and were very respectful. They were neat and clean, by the time the work was done you could not even tell that workers were there. Nowadays we never worry about the sump pump other that every once and a while and when we get our yearly maintenance. As for hurricane Irene we were great! We had no problems and were actually the ones going out and helping out neighbors.

You know that spot under your house…the crawlspace? I know that most homeowners tend to forget that dark damp and dirty place under their home I mean who wouldn’t. However sometimes neglecting your crawl space nj can end up costing you a pretty penny. One of the many ways in which a crawlspace can harm you is when your floors begin to sag into the space.

So how does one know when their floors are sagging into the crawlspace or what causes it? basement waterproofing. Well there are 3 main causes for sagging floors over a crawlspace are the existing block or brick columns are spaced too far apart to support the floor above. basement flooding nj. The next cause is weakened floor joists and girders due to moisture and wood rot. This means that all that moisture and humidity coming out of the uncovered earth is affecting the pieces holding up your home. And the lastly floor sagging over a crawlspace can be caused by settling of existing columns due to weak soil.

Know that you know what can be causing flooring sagging over your crawlspace how do you identify it and fix it for good? Some of the common signs are:

Sloping floors

Cracks in interior walls and door frames out of level

Gaps between existing columns and girders in the crawl space

Shimming between existing columns and girders in the crawl space

Evidence of moisture, wood rot and compression of the floor joists in the crawl space

Ultimately in order to recognize the problem you need to go down and get into that crawl space new jersey. Now that you are no longer ignoring your crawlspace it is time to fix the problem if you see any of these signs. The truly smart way to fix a crawlspace is to have your local foundation repair specialists install the SmartJack Crawl Space Stabilizer. This steel supported system will be able to stabilize and level out the girders and floor joists. This method is the only real solution to any floor sagging over a crawlspace.

Crawl Space Encapsulation. What is this you ask yourself? Well this system can potentionally be the solution to all your dirt crawlspace problems forever! Crawl space middlesex county encapsulation can fix all of our your dirt crawlspace problems in basically one step.

We all know dirt crawl spaces are a huge problem and need to be stopped. Not only does the dry soils cause settling of your floors, but also humidity which leads to mold and rot along with loads of various other problems. What the CleanSpace does is that it is like a heavy pool liner that seals up all the walls and floor in the crawlspace. ALong with this system that can work to stop water and humidity from invading your crawl space, a dehumidifier or sump pump nj can be installed also to work to clear up any of the remaining dampness in the space.

By creating a clean environment in your crawl space new york you are creating a healthy environment in the rest of your home as well. This is because the air from your crawl space leaks up into the air you breathe in your home. The Clean Space encapsulation systems clean the air in your crawl space through the use of the SaniDry dehumidifier. All of these elements working together create safe breathing air for you and your family, so you can breathe easy.

All in all investing in the installation of the CleanSpace Encapsulation systems is something you will not regret. We promise that you will love this system, it can fix all of your dirt crawl space problems in one systems. This means all of the problems are gone and no having to deal with them as they get worse one at time. You just need one company, and one system to have one very clean crawl space area.

Helical piers are known my many contractors to be the best way to fix foundation nj settlement. If this is true why do other companies still use other methods that just simply do not work? Sometimes people think methods such as total foundation replacement, concrete underpinning or concrete piers are cheaper and easier solutions to foundation repair nj. However we already know that this is not true. So why don’t these methods works?

The problem with total foundation replacement is that it does not address the real issue. The foundation is not the problem the soil is! By replacing the foundation you are simply just building a new foundation on top of the same soil that failed the previous foundation. On top of not fixing the real problem total foundation replacement is extremely expensive and disruptive to a home.

The problem with our next so-called “solution” is that concrete underpinning does not go deep enough. Most of the time this method foes not extend past the “active zone”. It never truly reaches the troubled soils. However the worst part about concrete underpinning is that as foundation settlement continues to get worse it is even more expensive to fix again.

Just like concrete underpinning, concrete piers do not work because they do not reach deep enough to stabilize the bad soil. In the end it is easy to see that the main problem with all of these “solutions” to foundation repair new jersey is that these processes do not go far enough to reach the bad soil causing the problem.

So what makes helical piers new jersey the best solution to foundation problems? Well first of all the work and second they actually reach down deep in the soil so that the house rests on stable soil. The weight of the home is transferred through the helical piers nj to deeper competent soils. Helical piers are made of steel and are able to successfully support the weight of your home and push your house back into its original positioning.

All in all choosing to use helical piers nj will provide you with a solution to your foundation sinking problems for good. Here at Quality 1st Foundation Supportworks we know that our piers are the best and we follow criteria and codes setup by the International Code Council

There is nothing more rewarding to your home than a dry basement. If your existing basement is free from leaks, cracks or condensation; it will be a much simpler task than a major basement remodeling effort. If your home has a dry basement, it can provide as an extra living space for your family.

Although many of us think it is impossible to get, have or keep a dry basement, avoiding a wet basement is a much easier task than one would think. Achieving a dry basement is as easy as 1-2-3-4-5-6; six simple steps can get you the basement nj of your dreams.

Step 1= The rain gutters on your home are more important than you may think. Although rain gutters cannot carry rain directly away from your home, and at times they tend to spill out and run over, their intent is to prevent rain from falling directly on your foundation. When rain falls near your foundation it creates puddles and over time it can seep into the concrete foundation of your home. Making sure these gutters are working properly is the first step in creating a dry basement.

Step 2= Although it is not the simplest task to perform, it is suggested to keep the ground around your home’s foundation in a sloped angle, allowing the water to run away from your home.

Step 3= It is best to not only try to keep your basement protected from the weather, but it is also a good idea to weatherproof your doors and windows. This can be achieved though a simple tube of caulking; twice a year is sufficient to reinforce them. However, one should have a more secure sealant.

Step 4= Consider placing a dehumidifier in your basement. Humidity in such a small, enclosed space can create condensation. Keeping a dehumidifier in your basement isn’t going to solve all your problems, but it has been known to help if the moisture in your basement is coming from condensation and not seepage.

Step 5 = If your house has an outdoor spigot, check for leaks. A dripping spigot can and will create a concrete-eroding puddle with very little effort. If you discover a leak, contact your local plumber and ask him to fix the leak; it is far less expensive than repairing your foundation.

Step 6= This may be the most important step of all. If you discover a leak, fix it! You will never achieve a dry basement if you constantly have leaks. Basement moisture comes from a variety of sources, but a leak can be relatively easy to spot.

Our basement waterproofing company will examine your basement and determine what type of leak you have, as well as recommend the best and most cost efficient way to fix it. We will be able to help you throughout the entire process of achieving basement waterproofing nj bliss.

Your basement doesn’t have to be unpredictable, but can be comfortably stable. On the other hand, a proposal is far better enjoyed when the surprise is left undiscovered. But, a basement’s surprises are never just as sweet.

How has your basement surprised you in the past? Has it been the floods, the cracks or maybe the mold and must? Whether you’ve experienced one, multiple or different problems with your basement; hydrostatic pressure is one natural process that could be the cause of many severe basement issues.

What is Hydrostatic Pressure? When water hides behind a structure it’s in preparation for an attack. The prefix hydro- means water and static means standing or not moving. And when water stands behind a structure its volume only builds and builds until it finds a way through or around said barrier. Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure that a certain volume of water exerts on an object due to gravity. So basically eventually the water will break through and get into your living spaces.
Hydrostatic pressure can cause your retaining wall to buckle, can cause your foundation nj to move and walls to crack. Then, you guessed it; your basement will most certainly flood during those heavy rains.
This water pressure can even move through concrete foundations, because against popular belief, concrete is actually porous– meaning it’s not all that solid after all. It has many pores giving concrete its strength, but provides water its open access.

How do you keep you basement dry with hydrostatic pressure? Some basement waterproofing nj systems utilize external ways to waterproof nj the outside of your home. This could very well include a tar or waterproof coating on the actual foundation. However, the most beneficial way to keep a basement dry is not by keeping the wall dry, but by preventing water from building up behind a wall– thus applying high hydrostatic pressure.

An internal waterproofing drainage system actually meets the water at its prime hangout– the wall-floor joint. Then, the water is diverted away from your foundation. The internal system can take, at most, a couple of days to install and causes very little damage or residual issues. The internal system will not clog and rests directly on top of the footing.

This system will go around your entire foundation and prevents water from building up and pressuring your walls. No more cracks and no more buckling.

Once the drainage system collects the water it will direct it toward a sump pump new jersey. This sump pump will them push the water out and away from the home. This sump pump nj is the heart of the system, if not for the sump, the drainage would have to run a pipe to the outside submitting itself to damage and making for easy access to rodents.

Every company claims that they are the best, however can you ever really trust what they say about themselves? Here at Quality 1st Basement Systems we can say were the best and have the support to prove it. We are New Jersey’s leading waterproofing company. If you don’t believe us just ask your fellow New Jersey residents. They know that we are who you need to call for basement waterproofing.

For example Eva F. from Linden New Jersey said “I found Quality 1st in the “Home Improvement” magazine and called them for a free estimate. I was very happy with the salesmen that come out, he explained the problem and went through a presentation explaining how they could fix the problem. We went with Quality 1st to do the work and the entire experience from start to finish was great.”

Even experts from New Jersey can support us in saying that we are the guys to call if you have a wet basement. Look what Jordan Rosenberg of Ridgewood NJ said “Being a licensed architect with specialty training in water permeability and infiltration in building structures, I am whole heartedly impressed with your company in every respect. “
We may not be able to agree on which is better North Jersey or South, or whether there really is a Central Jersey but all across the Garden State people can agree that if you are looking for courteous service and quality products Quality 1st Basement Systems is the company you need. We can turn you damp and dingy basement into a wonderful living space as well as make you crawl space a safe mold free area. But it doesn’t stop there, not only are our professionals skilled in creating a waterproofed home for you but we are also knowledgeable in how to fix your foundation problems or help to design a finished basement room.

No one ever expects a leak to come. However some of the household appliances we use daily may be ticking time bombs getting ready to explode water all over your home. One of the first most common plumbing leaks in your home is with your water heater. nj basement waterproofing. Every homeowner knows that in the about of time you live in your home you are going to need to change your water heater many times. waterproofing. The common way that a water heater lets you know it needs to be changed is when it begins to leak. The major problem with this is that the water heater does not simply leak until its empty; because it automatically refills itself your water heater can leak for weeks without you even noticing. I have seen many basements become filled with water because of a leaky water heater.

Nonetheless water heaters are not the only appliance that can ruin your home with water damage, washing machine hoses can be a big problem as well. basement waterproofing. Washing machine hoses can be a major problem because they are basically garden hoses that have 50 psi of pressure pumping in them at all time. With all that water pressure eventually the hose may go pffffffffffftftttt or even worse guuusssshhhhhhhhhhh! Believe it or not I have seen water coming out of a basement window because of a blown washing machine hose.

So what can be done to make sure that these two household appliances do not end up ruining your home? For the water heater in your home a product called the FloodRing can be easily installed around your water heater. What this product does is that it drains water heater leakage out to the perimeter drainage system in your basement. For your washing machine hoses we recommend replacing them with “FloodChek” hoses. These hoses are unlike regular washing machine hoses because they industrial-duty, triple-ply, 20-year warranted hoses with machine brass end connections.

Once you drained all the water out of your basement and made sure that your home is basement waterproofing new jersey, the next you would want to fix is the damp walls. Because of the water that leaked into you basement you are now left with damp ugly looking basement walls. Needless to say they are not pretty, and chances are you want them gone. Well in order to have that happen you would first need to meet with a basement systems specialist who will help you find the best solution for you home. The three most popular ways to fix damp basement walls are coatings, paneling and vapor barriers.

Wall coatings are not a permanent fix. The reason coatings are not a good option is simply because they do not stay on the wall for a very long time. Wall coatings do not stay on the walls because water and water vapor are already on the wall and push the coating off the wall as time goes on. When they begin to flake and peel the look even worse that just having the damp wall.

The next option is paneling. There are two types of paneling and both provide great and lasting solutions to your damp walls. The first of the options is called ZenWall Paneling, ZenWall is a thick encapsulation fiberglass core with a reflective foil vapor barrier on the back and decorative finish on the front. This option is not only prevent water and water vapor from getting into the basement but also are a quick way to get a finished look to your basement. Then there is BrightWall which is just simply the plastic version of ZenWall and is at least 30% cheaper.

The last option of basement waterproofing nj is to have one of our two Wall Systems installed. ThermaDry is the first of our wall systems and if is a wall and floor systems that traps heat in you basement walls, providing a dry and comfortable living space for homeowners. This is a great option for people who are looking to eventually put up finished basement walls. On the other hand CleanSpace is a durable plastic liner that is prefect for lining crawl spaces or stone basement walls that are not completely flat. CleanSpace provides a good barrier that can protect your basement from water vapor and leaks.

Summer is finally here and with the arrival of summer comes the arrival of some new interns, as well as employees. Our new summer interns includes Brianne and Tara who have come home for the summer from college and have come to Quality 1st in order to gain experience working in the business environment. These two girls have become a wonderful addition to our company. They are both eager to learn about different aspects of running a business such as social marketing, and customer service.

However other than these two interns Quality 1st Basement Systems has added to lovely ladies to help handle the phones and appointment booking. Jen and Cassie have become apart of the Quality 1st team and they are both a great addition. Both of these girls are young and able to absorb all the information we throw at then. Especially with the mass amount of rain that has be happening in our area Jen and Cassie have been extremely helpful in making Quality 1st Basement Systems run smoothly and made sure that anyone who need basement waterproofing nj received the help.

Altogether with the help of these new additions to the Quality 1st family we have been able to make sure that there is no basement flooding in New Jersey no matter how bad the rain gets.
